My New Pool Shell Looks Rough.
Is Something Wrong?
You finally have a concrete pool shell — but it looks rough, unfinished and nothing like the pool you imagined. Here’s what you’re actually looking at.
No. What you’re looking at is the structural concrete shell — not the finished swimming surface. At this stage, the pool has its shape, steps, benches and structural form, but many of the finishes that completely change how it looks and feels are still to come.
STRUCTURE FIRST. BEAUTY COMES LATER.
Real Progress.
Real People.
Real Results.
The concrete is sprayed into place around the reinforced structure and shaped to create the pool’s form. This process naturally results in a rough texture — you’re looking at a construction surface, not the final interior finish.
Important: A rough-looking shell doesn’t mean we ignore every mark or irregularity. The shell still needs to be built and checked correctly before the next stage.
03 — Will my feet actually touch that?
No — and this is the part homeowners often don’t realise. The rough structural shell you’re seeing now isn’t what your finished pool will look or feel like once the later finishing stages are complete.
Once the shell is complete and approved, a series of finishing stages transform the raw concrete into the beautiful pool you imagined.
1. SHELL COMPLETE →
2. TILES & COPING →
3. SURROUNDS →
4. FINISHED POOL.
Same pool. Very different day.
The concrete shell that once looked rough and unfinished is now almost invisible beneath the details that bring the design to life.
Don’t judge your pool halfway through its story.
The build can look messy, raw and very far from the dream at different stages. Understanding what you’re looking at makes the whole process much less intimidating.
