PROJECT STORY
Here's How We
Still Built Their
Dream Pool
A council restriction could have
stopped this project before it
ever began. Instead, it led to a
smarter design and a better
outcome for the family.
Mitchelton, QLD
The original plan was to position the pool in the sloping lawn at the end of the driveway. However, an easement restriction on a private road meant council approval was not possible.
Through smart thinking, research and collaboration with the client, we found an innovative solution that not only met council requirements but created additional value for the whole family.

Council restrictions on the private road easement meant the original pool design in the sloping grass area could not be approved.
The clients were concerned they wouldn’t be able to have a pool at all.
We needed a solution that worked within the existing footprint and met all council requirements.
We reviewed the original house plans and looked at how the family actually used their home.
The last section of the driveway was rarely used, and the end garage wasn’t essential.
We decided to remove the unused driveway and retaining walls, build the pool in the same location, add a privacy screen wall to the street, and convert the end garage into a gym with fixed windows.
When faced with council restrictions, the best solution isn’t always about changing the engineering.
It’s about understanding the home, the land and how our clients live.
Great design comes from knowledge, creativity and experience working together.
Researched original house plans
Lateral thinking created opportunity
