Custom Concrete Pool Designed Around a Challenging Site
A challenging site doesn’t mean compromising on the end result.
This Bridgeman Downs project presented a number of design challenges, with planning beginning well before the home itself was constructed.
The narrow backyard slopes sharply towards the rear of the property, while significant council infrastructure running through the site placed further restrictions on where the pool could be positioned.
At first glance, fitting a comfortable family pool into the available space seemed difficult. Through careful planning and a considered combination of retaining walls, steps and different outdoor levels, the team created a 6.0m x 3.0m custom concrete pool that feels completely at home within the property.
Making the Most of Every Metre
Rather than allowing the narrow block and changing levels to dictate the outcome, the design works with them.
The pool has been carefully integrated into the backyard while maintaining generous surrounding walkways and space for landscaping.
A suspended timber deck positioned beside the pool provides an additional place to relax and enjoy the outlook towards the neighbouring parkland, while the combination of porcelain tiles, glass fencing, greenery and different textures helps connect the outdoor areas naturally with the home.
Additional steps also provide a connection between the backyard and parkland beyond.
The finished result is a great example of how thoughtful pool design can transform a difficult Brisbane block into a functional and inviting outdoor space.
