Can Rain Delay Your Pool Build - Even When the Sun Is Shining?

The rain may have stopped. The impact on your building site may not have.

Here’s what’s really happening behind the scenes.

It’s sunny today. So why isn’t anyone working on my pool?”

It’s a fair question. When the rain has stopped and the blue sky is back, it can look as though construction should simply start again.

But during a concrete pool build, we’re not only looking at the weather above us. We also need to look at what the rain has done to the site below us.

After heavy rain, the excavation can hold water, surrounding soil can stay saturated, access can become too soft for heavy machinery, and some construction stages may need to wait until conditions are suitable again.

A sunny day doesn’t always mean a dry building site.

01 When It Rains

Rain affects more than the surface. With an open pool excavation, heavy rain can quickly leave water in the hole and saturate the surrounding soil.

The important part: the impact of the rain can continue after the rain itself has stopped.

02 The Rain Stops. The Site is Still Wet

This is the part that can be confusing. The next morning may be bright and sunny, but the ground can still be waterlogged and the excavation can still be holding water.

Sunshine doesn’t instantly reset the building site.

03 What's Happening Under Our Feet

Wet soil can stay soft and unstable for some time. Working on it too early can churn up access areas, damage surrounding ground and make the site harder to work on.

Sometimes the smartest thing we can do is give the ground time to recover.

04 Heavy Machinery Needs Heavy Access

Excavators, concrete pumps and construction vehicles are heavy. If the access route is saturated, bringing machinery in too early can cause unnecessary damage or make site conditions worse.

We assess the site – not just the sky.

05 Water May Need to Be Removed

If rainwater has collected in the excavation, it may need to be pumped out before the site can be prepared for the next stage.

Removing the water is only part of it. The surrounding site may also need time to drain and become workable again.

06 Some Stages Can't Be Rushed

Steel, plumbing and concrete are important stages of a concrete pool build. If the weather or site conditions aren’t suitable for the work planned, the responsible decision may be to reschedule that stage.

Waiting a little longer is better than rushing an important part of the build simply because the sun has come out.

07 When Conditions are Right, We're Back to Work

As soon as the site is ready and the next stage can proceed properly, construction moves forward again.

A weather delay doesn’t mean your project has been forgotten. It means the construction sequence is being adjusted to the conditions on site.

THE CITYSCAPES APPROACH

WE CAN’T CONTROL THE WEATHER.
WE CAN CONTROL HOW WE RESPOND TO IT.

A weather delay can be frustrating, but sometimes waiting is part of building properly. We’ll keep you informed, explain what’s happening and get your project moving again as soon as site conditions allow.
